Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv continues to build into the future as she signed Scottie Wilbekin to a 3-year contract extension. It's the second extension given out this season, after keeping head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos unto 2023. Before the matchup versus Real Madrid, the team spoke about the latest agreement.
"It wasn't too hard of a decision to sign the extension, my wife and I wanted to stay here, and we were hoping for the right offer. Fortunately, the first offer was a good one, and I'm happy to put it behind us and move forward", Told Scottie Wilbekin to reports before the final practice towards Real. "I like the fans from a basketball perspective, this is one of the best home-court environments. I also like the players, coaching staff, the city, and the weather is probably the best for any EuroLeague team, so all those combined make it a great experience".
"I was motivated before the extension", Answered the guard about maybe feeling extra motivated because of the new deal. "I don't know if there is extra motivation, but definitely knowing I'll be here for three more years makes everything more real and maybe special as this will be my home for the next couple of years".
"We are very happy to have Scottie stay with us for the next few years", Said general manager Nicola Vujcic about the newest extension. "First, we signed coach, and now signing our leading player was very important for us. From here we are going to continue, we have a great group of guys that we are trying to do everything to keep them together. It's still not February, so we started on time".
"You only see the final result, you don't look at the process", Added Vudcic. "What you see now is something we started three years ago, I don't believe in instant results because you need to have stability and build it through time. You need to surround yourself with great management and players, and that's what we are doing. You all know the situation with other European clubs budgets, and for us, to make an atmosphere for players that are willing to stay in Maccabi for less money to compete is a big win for us".
"I'm very happy we extended Scottie, he was one of our team's priorities. With this signing, we want to have continuation", Told head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos about keeping the guard until 2023. "Scottie is very satisfied here, and that was the reason he extended his contract like I was delighted with my extension. We want to grow and improve as a team every week month year".
"He is super important, just looking at everything he's done for the team, leadership on and off the court. It's amazing, I'm glad for him". Said teammate Othello Hunter about his friend's new deal.
