The story of Tal Brody and Maccabi Tel Aviv dates back to 1965 where the 12th NBA draft pick made by the Baltimore Bullets traveled to Israel for the first time in his life. It was the summer of 65 and Tal has just arrived for the Maccabiah games where he represented team USA; right from the beginning it was evident that Tal fell in love with the state of Israel, and when Maccabi approached Tal, asking him to join the franchise it was clear that foundations for the yellow dynasty have been laid.
Giving up on the NBA career the mega sniper moved to Israel and in his first two seasons in yellow and blue Tal led Maccabi in its amazing quest that ended with two domestic championships and as the 1967 FIBA European Cup Winners Cup runner ups.
Taking a break from basketball so that he would fulfil his military service during the Vietnam War, Brody came back to Israel in 1970 this time as a citizen as he made Aliya. His love for Israel alongside his amazing talent helped Maccabi reach new heights as the crew in yellow and blue won all domestic championships, six state cups and its first ever European championship while coining the most well-known phrase in the world of basketball– "We're on the map".
A Maccabi legend that started it all, Tal Brody is without a doubt an all-time Maccabi great that gave up on what could have been a tremendous NBA career due to an eventful summer back in 1965, a summer where he fell in love with Israel and Maccabi. A true Maccabi legend.
