Aulcie Perry’s Maccabi career began by coincidence. After he was cut by the New York Knicks without playing a single game, Aulcie played pickup basketball in a the famous Rucker Park in Harlem, where he was discovered by a Maccabi scout. Perry was offered the richest contract in Maccabi’s history at the time, signing for $6,000 a month.

Aulcie instantly became a force on and off the court for Maccabi Tel Aviv. His 6’10” frame dominated opposing defenses, and his outstanding play had a positive influence on his teammates. In his first season with Maccabi, in 1977, Aulcie was one of the driving forces behind the historic European Championship. In each season playing for Maccabi, he won the Israeli League Championship. In that span, Perry won an additional European Championship in 1981.

During his time with Maccabi, Aulcie Perry quickly became an A-list celebrity in Israel. He was even included in Arik Einstein’s lyrics in one of his songs. Aiding to Perry's popularity in Israel is the fact that in 1978 he converted to Judaism and even received a Jewish name - Elisha Ben Avraham - and an Israeli citizenzship.

After retiring, Perry remained committed to Israel and connected to Maccabi. He now lives in Israel and coaches in Maccabi’s youth basketball system. A superstar that brought so much joy to Israel on and off the court, Perry will always be one of the greats to suit up for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
