Angelo Dominik Caloiaro, an Italian citizen, is a native of San Jose, California, who studied at the university of San Francisco. He was not drafted in 2012 and started his professional career in Brilski of the Bulgarian League. Afterward, he moved to the German Mitteldeutscher and continued to Telekom Bonn, and also played in the Eurocup.
In the 2015/16 season, Angelo Caloiaro joined Obradoiro from the Spanish league, where he averaged 11.6 points (63.2% per second), 5.6 rebounds and 2 steals. He then played in B?y?k?ekmece (11.9 points in 72.1% for two and 5.4 rebounds in the Eurocup), before moving to Banvit.
In Banvit he played 35 League games (fourth place) and 18 Champions League games. In the local league he provided 13.1 points with 45.8% from the three (67.5% in two, 82.7% from the line) and 5.9 rebounds, while in the European he contributed 11.8 points (40% from the three) and 5.6 rebounds.
His term in Maccabi started with him playing the number four position, but after Giannis Sfairopoulos' introduction, Caloiaro jumped around the two forward spots. During the 18/19 regular season in the league he scored 5.8 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds in 17.5 minutes on the floor, on the way to winning the championship. In the Euroleague he played 24:47 per evening, scored 7.4 points, took 4.8 rebounds and grabbed 1.2 rebs per game.
The following year, Caloiaro wasn't included in Maccabi's squad for the league, until the Covid-19 pandemic changed things around. He played in the final stretch and came up big, posting 12.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game en route to another championship. In Europe, Gelo contributed 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per night.
Angelo will remember the 20/21 season for two reasons: the birth of this first child mid-season, and the great form he had since that moment. After scoring 8.4 points per game in the regular season, to go along with 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists, the American elevated himself to 10.6 points in the playoffs (2.9 rebs, 2.1 asts) and played a pivotal role in the double win: championship and state cup. In EuroLeague play, Caloiaro had 5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 33 games.
Angelo Caloiaro comes from a sports family and his parents were college basketball players. His brother played soccer and his sister was a volleyball player, but the most famous athlete in the tribe is his cousin. Her name is Kerri Walsh Jennings, three times Olympic champion in beach volleyball (and another bronze medal in Rio 2016), three times world champion and one of the greatest and most successful beach volleyball players in the world.
