The Yellows ousted the title-holders, Bnei Herzeliya, with a smooth 105:89 win at Menora Mivtachim Arena. Brown and Menko led the scorers with 17 points each
Last season it was Bnei Herzeliya who knocked out Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in Winner's league playoffs and shattered the Yellows' dream of winning the championship. Today (Monday) was payback time as Maccabi ousted Oren Aharoni's team 105:89 in the Israeli state cup quarterfinals and cruised to the semis where it would face Irony Ness Ziona.
It was a fabulous team performance from beginning to end. In its first knockout game in Menora Mivtachim Arena, Oded Kattash's team dominated its opponent and showed a great display of three-pointers while doing so (16/27 from behind the arc).
Lorenzo Brown and Rafi Menko (17 points each) led the scorers, but the more impressive stat was the one indicating that six different Maccabi players scored in double digits.
On Thursday, the focus will shift to the Euroleague as Alba Berlin will arrive in Tel Aviv. Judging by today's exhibit, the yellow fans should be pretty optimistic.
