It was a heroic, and historic, night for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. Looking down the barrel of an 18-point deficit in an arena they never won in, the yellows fought back all the way to a 84-80 victory over Crvena Zvezda on Thursday.
The win - Maccabi's first in the Serbian capital as visitors in just over a decade - means elevated the team to a 16-13 record in the EuroLeague with just five regular season games left. It was also the Israeli champs' 10th triumph in a row across all competitions.
Oded Kattash's men endured a sluggish first half, failing to make shots and stopping the home team. But after the break, a different version of Maccabi showed up, one that forced turnovers and converted them to easy points down the other hand. Little by little, Maccabi erased Zvezda's lead, andthe yellows never looked back when the comeback was completed.
Josh Nebo was terrific with 18 points, 13 boards and 3 blocks. Bonzie Colson earned the top scorer nod with 23 points, while Wade Baldwin delivered 14 points and 5 assists. Maccabi will be back home on Saturday to host Hapoel Afula.
