The yellows registered another preseason win over the Serbs, with Colson leading the charge with 18 points. On Saturday: Maccabi goes against Olympiacos
As preseason games go, this was quite the thriller. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv outlasted Red Star Belgrade 112:109 in double-overtime on Friday, making it three wins out of four in exhibition play. Oded Kattash's men will have little time to rest in Cyprus, as they are set to match up against Olympiacos on Saturday.
It was a game of runs, with both teams unable to separate themselves from the opponent. The Israeli champs led for most of the evening, led by Bonzie Colson who scored 18 points. It seemed as though Maccabi was able to create a big enough gap in the final quarter, but the Serbs - led by Nemanja Nedovic and Rokas Giedraitis - forced overtime.
The script repeated itself in the additional 5 minutes, with Maccabi unable to put the game away despite a scoring run by Wade Baldwin IV. A second overtime ensued, this time Roman Sorkin hitting a three-pointer to seal the deal.
Sorkin was the second-leading scorer for the yellows with 17, while Baldwin chipped in with 15. Josh Nebo and Tamir Blatt both added 14 for the Maccabees, who had ten different players play at least 20 minutes.
