Two minutes to go in the third quarter, Unicaja Malaga led 60-53 in Yad Eliyahu but a 12-2 run led by Lior Lubin, put Maccabi 65-62 up. Maccabi led 73-70 from a three pointer by Quincy Lewis who scored 11 consecutive points. Adam Wojcik made it a one point game with an offensive rebound. Marcus Goree pulled down a rebound but lost the ball & Bullock squared from the FT line. Burstien put Maccabi 75-73 up with 24 seconds to go. Malaga had the final possesion. Cabezas tried a three pointer & missed. Gurovic pulled down the rebound and was fouled by Gorre. The Yugoslav made no mitake from the line and the game went to overime (75-75).
Maccabi took a 81-77 lead with a three pointer by Burstein. But without the injured Beno Udrih, the elimination of Sharp, Lubin & Lewis with 5 fouls and the high quality free throws shooting of the visitors, Malaga had the final say and won 89-86. This was Maccabi's first home defeat in the Euroleague since March 2000 when they succumbed 62-65 to Paf Bologna.
In his first Euroleague game, Lior Lubin was voted MVP after a fine game.
Two other games ended with road wins: TAU Vitoria did it in Podgorica, 81-71 over Buducnost and Olimpija Ljubljana won in Kaunas, 81-73 over Zalgiris. In Siena Mirsad Turkcan led Montepaschi to a 77-69 home win over Panathinaikos. Turkcan became MVP of the week with 19 pts, 16 rbds, 7 stls & 4 assists.
