More than 15 years have passed since the last meeting between Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Zalgiris Kaunas. Then the Lithuanian team was the champions of the Soviet Union and the games were held on neutral ground in Brussels as the Soviet authorities refused entry visas to the Maccabi players and denied Zalgiris a visit to Tel Aviv. Four games were played in 1986 & 1987, each team winning twice.

David Blatt & his players will prefer to forget their visit to Kaunas. They scored only 14 pts in the first half to Zalgiris 19 who led 42-36 at half time. The local team has won only once in six games. were coached for the first time by Antanas Sireika who saw his team increase their lead to 64-57 at the end of the third period. Just when it looked that Maccabi was on their way back into the game (67-63), the hosts went on a 14-0 run, led 81-63 with the final score 87-74.

TAU Vitoria suffered a heavy defeat 54-71 n Malaga vs Unicaja. Olimpija Ljubljana continued their winning way with a 77-70 win over Panathinaikos. A second win for Buducnost, 91-75 over Momntepaschi Siena.
