The home game vs Olimpija Ljubljana came in an eight days of hectic program. It started on Sunday with five of our players in the National Team in a crucial game vs Romania. Twenty four hours later a postponed Premier League game vs Galil Elyon. On Saturday we play Siroki in the Adriatic League and on Monday the team faces Bnei Hasharon.
It was the fourth meeting between the teams this season, Maccabi winning twice. Maccabi ended the first quarter with a 25-21 lead. The second period was poor, won 11-8 by Olimpija. At the half Maccabi had a 33-32 lead. The tendency continued in the third quarter, won 10-9 by Maccabi who went into the final period with a 43-41 lead. Then we saw Nikola Vujcic at his best. With five minutes to go Maccabi led 53-49. Sharp & Vujcic made it 62-56. Five points by captain Shelef in the last two minutes brought the final score to 69-60. Vujcic final figures were 18 pts, 12 rbds, 2 stls & 4 assists which gave him 30 valuation pts.
In Kaunas a win for Zalgiris, 101-85 over Buducnost. First appearance for Tanoka Beard in the Zalgiris team with 20 pts’ 15 rbds, 3 ass & 2 stls which made him MVP of the week with 39 val. Points. Another home defeat for Montepaschi Siena, 73-79 vs Unicaja Malaga who played without the injured Gurovic. TAU Vitoria arrived in Athens without the injured Griffith & Palladino but almost surprised Panathinaikos who eventually won 86-83.
