A year to the day to their last second 77-78 loss to TAU Vitoria in Yad Eliyahu and three months after another home loss 69-72, Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv evened things up with the Spanish champions. In one of the best performances in the last years Maccabi won 100-77.
The first half reminded very much the two previous games. Maccabi led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter, went behind 22-25 but Burstein’s five pts in a 7-0 run gave them the lead and at the half it was 46-40.
In the second half Maccabi played their best basketball of the season. Inspired by captain Gur Shelef they led 73-57 at the end of the third period and continued to run. A three pointer by Derrick Sharp on the buzzer closed out a 23 pts win.
Shelef was elected MVP with 21 pts in 70% FG, 5 rbds, 5 assists & 2 stls.
Benetton Treviso also recorded their second win, 82-70 in Bologna vs Virtus. Langdon led Benetton with 20 pts (4-5 for three). Berkic was top scorer for Virtus with 17 pts.
