Devin Smith is starting his seventh year in Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv and as a veteran who’s been to the mountain top; he knows what it takes to get there again.
 
“You always have a hunger for more", said Smith, "that’s the biggest thing. Once you win one, you want to be in that situation again. That alone will carry you and the spirit of Maccabi will carry you a long way too, if you play the right way”.
 
Smith also knows what it takes to rebound from  a tough season: “We do that by constantly improving. The group of guys we have now… we brought a lot of key pieces, guys who are great players in their own right. But we haven’t had enough time to practice together. We have to continue to work every day”.
 
“Our new players bring a winning mentality. For young guys like Victor Rudd and Quincy Miller, when he gets healthy, that type of leadership will bring those guys along pretty fast”.

The Euroleague opener went down to the wire before Landsberg missed a chance to send the game to OT (99:97). Goudelock was on fire with 27 points. Next week: Real Madrid

It was very close to another miracle in Milan, but this time around, it ended in heart break. Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv lost 97:99 to Olimpia Milano in the Euroleague season opener despite mounting another impressive comeback.
 
The game was close until the third quarter when an Italian run spiked the lead up to 11 points. Maccabi battled back but came up short as Sylven Landsberg missed a chance to tie the game with a lay-up set up by Guy Pnini but the shot was blocked.
 
Andrew Goudelock was simply phenomenal with 27 points and a rating of 33. Devin Smith scored 18, Landsberg had 15 and Zirbes who got into foul trouble scored 13. DJ Seeley had 9, Colton Iverson 6, Yogev Ohayon 5, Gal Mekel and Joe Alexander 2 each.
 
"We're still not defending at a level that I can be happy with", said Coach Erez Edelstein, "97 points should be enough to win on the road against any team. We have to focus on defense on a team level and on a personal level". Maccabi plays two home games next week: against Hpoel Eilat on Monday and Real Madrid on Thursday.
 
Andrew Goudelock said: "Our defensive rotations weren't good. Guys are still a bit confused and we have to get better. There's no way we should concede 99 points in a Euroleague game but that's where we're at right now. I feel like I have a leadership role here and I'll continue to lead. Hopefully it will lead to more wins".
