Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv finally gave its crowd something to get excited about. After a losing streak of three games and without Andrew Goudelock, who suffered from ankle issues, Maccabi surged to beat Fenerbache 87:77 and go to 3:4 in Euroleague play.
Sonny Weems played his best game since joining the team with 22 points and gave a pretty simple explanation to what we saw: "I think we just got tired of losing. We came out as a unit and got a great team win for our fans".
The game was close for three quarters before a 10:0 run early in the fourth quarter insured the points stayed in Tel Aviv. "For the first time since I got here, I feel like the spirit of Maccabi showed up", said Coach Rami Hadar, "we played strong defense, got out on transition and took advantage of our opportunities.
Yogev Ohayon also had a very strong showing with 19 points, Devin Smith scored 15 and Victor Rudd got 10. "I feel like personally, I had a five game stretch in which I didn't really get into the game. I'm just glad I was able to leave my mark out there today. The fans have been amazing since I got here and I'm glad we finally gave them something to cheer about". Maccabi plays Kazan on Thursday before hosting Hapoel Jerusalem on Sunday.
