Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv opened its 2016/17 preseason campaign with a close, hard fought win over AEK Athens 68:67. Maccabi were ahead for the entire game, including a 14 point gap during the 4rd quarter, before the Greeks came back with 6 three pointers in the final 10 minutes.
Only after the score was tied (60:60), Guy Pnini scored 5 of the last 8 points to secure the win. Sylven Landsberg led Maccabi with 15 points, DJ Seeley added 11, Maik Zirbes and Yogev Ohayon scored 7 apiece while recent addition Colton Iverson scored 6.
"It's always good to start with a win", said Pnini, "we gained some confidence even though we didn't play well for the entire game. Now it's all about the next one". Maccabi's next game will be on Friday, against Panathinaikos.
