Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv returned to its home court at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena as it proved to be once again the best show in town. Coach Spahija's "Yellows" defeated Baskonia (74-68) en route of staying undefeated in the EuroLeague. Cole who finished the game with 24p & 5a, Thomas added 17. Tyus and Parakhouski set the tone on the defensive end.
Maccabi won't have enough time to rest as on Saturday (18:45) they will face Hapoel Gilboa\Galil at the Gan-Ner arena, and EuroLeaguerunner ups Olympiacos on Tuesday (21:00).
Coach Spahija started the game with Jackson, Roll, Kane,Bolden and Parakhouski. Baskonia were the more focused team at the beginning as they were up 6-2 two minutes into the game after an unsportsmanlike foul call on Art. Kane helped Maccabi back into its rhythm after great fast break that was followed by a block by Bolden and three pointer by Thomas as the Basque lead was cut down to only three points (13-10). In the last three minutes of the first quarter it was Cole who took control and ended the first quarter with breathtaking three pointer buzzer beater to put Maccabi up by three points (19-16) after 10 minutes.
The second quarter started the same way the first one ended – with athree pointer by Norris Cole who also connected with Alex as Maccabi completed a 13-0 run which made Baskonia call for a timeout. Coach Spahija's offense continued to impose its will en route of a double digit lead as Thomas scored a three pointer and Cole connected once more with Tyus to a rim shaking dunk. Baskonia took down the lead to just six points after a three pointer by Granger, but then Cole and Roll could not be denied as they put Maccabi up by nine 39-30 at half-time after Kane failed to beat the buzzer.
Parakhouski and Thomas opened the second half with tremendous efficiency as they’ve led Maccabi to a 45-32 lead, Cole continued his great game as 25 minutes into the game the scoreboard showed 48-34. Baskonia refused to give up their game and fought their way back into it as they've finished the third quarter down by only three points 56-53.
Cole continued his offensive display as Parakhouski did a great job on the defensive end, athree pointer by Roll made it 64-55. Baskonia came back all the way to 66-64 with three minutes left in the game but then it was Cole and Thomas again who scored the next four points, with the first connecting with Tyus again to another spectacular dunk to end the game in style and with a big 74-68 over Baskonia.
