Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv continued its great momentum in the EuroLeague as well after beating Valencia 94-91, the yellows showed great character in the fourth quarter to deny Valencia of a comeback, Pierre Jackson (21) and Thomas (20) excelled. Alex Tyus reached his 1,000 point milestone. Michael Roll will miss the next two domestic games due to injury.
Coach Spahija's starting five: Jackson, Roll, Kane, Bolden and Parakhouski, the game was close right from the tip off as the teams were tied at eight points apiece three minutes into the game, the Spaniards scored four three pointers to take the 14-10 lead. Parakhouski was incredible with eight consecutive followed with Alex Tyus scoring to give Maccabi the 16-14 lead. "The war from downtown" continued with John-Di scored Maccabi's first three point shot in the game. Thomas scored his first points to finish the first quarter with Maccabi leading 25-21.
John-Di increased Maccabi's lead to 27-21 but Martinez and Pleiss scored for Valencia and four minutes into the second quarter the scoreboard showed 29-28 for the locals. Roll stepped in for Cole and scored but this time Rudez reacted with a three pointer to tie the game at 33 apiece 15 minutes into the game. Jackson and Parakhouski gave the lead back to Maccabi, however a four point play by Green gave Valencia the lead with a couple of seconds left in the first half an almost full court pass found Parakhouski who berried a turnaround jumper to end the first half with the scoreboard showing 46-46.
Jackson opened the second half with six points in 40 seconds giving Maccabi the 52-46 lead, Bolden'sthree pointer made it 57-45. Fernando San Emeterio took business into is hands as he scored from downtown bringing Valencia within a striking distance, Parakhouski and Thomas reacted for Maccabi, but San Emeterio took Maccabi's lead down to just two points. Cole had the last say as he scored to give Maccabi the 69-65 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Thomas and Cole scored the first four points in the fourth quarter to take the 73-65 lead. Valencia came back from a timeout swinging to take Maccabi's lead down to just three points (73-70), Cole and Tyus scored againhowever Green reacted right away (77-74). Every time that Maccabi tried to run Valencia reacted, when the clock showed 03:30 Thomas scored back to back three pointers to give Maccabi the 88-79 lead, Valencia attempted yet another comeback but this time fell short in its first ever visit in TLV, 94-91 after 40 minutes of basketball.
