After a week of rest, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv will host CSKA Moscow in the EuroLeague's 24th round (Thursday 21:00 local, Channel ten and 5HD). The visitors who qualified to the playoffs last week are the number one seed with 18 wins and only five losses. They've recently bolstered their frontcourt with the yellow ex Victor Rudd who signed a one month deal.
Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv head coach Neven Spahija: "CSKA is probably the best team in Europe, we need to give 200% to be in our best form and that they won't be. Last time I was here we faced CSKA in the playoffs and lost. We've shown this season that we know how to react after bad games, our game against Malaga wasn't our worst game, we've already had worst games than the one we had against Malaga. Our recent practices were good, we had a good preparation for the game and this is how we'll come for the game".
"We want to play hard, compete and get the W", said DeShaun Thomas, "We have the home court advantage so hopefully we'll have our crowd going loud and crazy. The guys recharged their batteries and rested a little bit to be ready for this game, everyone came focused and had two good practices, and we're ready to roll. I know about the history of the rivalry from playing in Europe and in the finals, everybody knows how important it is, we all talk about it. We know what CSKA can do, a win can turn a lot of heads so hopefully we can come and get this win".
"We try to keep the same approach to every game, obviously as we get closer towards the end of the EuroLeague's regular season every game gets a different meaning, the games are exciting for us and we love playing in front of our home crowd and one of the best teams in Europe is coming to play so there's a lot of anticipation".
John DiBartolomeo also addressed the importance of the game after the loss to Malaga: "Obviously coming after a loss makes it important to get back on the right track but again we like to approach every game the same, with focus and intensity and that's what we'll do. It's not an individual we play defense as a team, they have a lot of strong players, it's not one guy so we need to help each other against arguably the best offense in the EuroLeague. I think we need to play with intensity and aggression and try to dictate from the beginning, try to not allow them any clean looks and feed off our crowd. I think that every win is the same and that every game we're growing and getting better, we are taking one game at a time and hopefully when it comes down to it, that's the position we'll be in - the playoffs".
Victor Rudd who wore the yellow and blue uniform last season said about his upcoming game vs his ex-team: "For me it's just another game, of course it'll be an important one. Maccabi has a completely new team, as a matter of fact only one player remained from last season. It'll be nice to see the staff and the fans again, I'm still in touch with some of them over the phone and in social media, it will be great to see them, plus we also have a couple of days to enjoy the warm weather".
