Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv have completed their preparations and are ready face Khimki on Thursday knowing that a win will give them the tie breaker advantage against the Russians should they be tied at the end of the regular season. The EuroLeague's 26th game day will be broadcasted live on Sport5HD and Chanel Ten, 20:00 CET).
A win against Khimki who's currently ranked 7th can "reshuffle the cards" and improve the yellows' position substantially as the regular season is just about to come to an end. In the first round Maccabi defeated Khimki 69:77 on the road with great performances by Pierre Jackson (19P & 6A) and Michael Roll (14P & 5A).
"The win against Efes has put us in a better position", said coach Neven Spahija, "the game against Khimki is our most important game this season. It's a shot at the playoffs, losing this game will put us in a bad position. We had the chance to recover and come ready for the game. We were very tired after a lot of games, we didn't have a problem in the locker room, but the losses didn't help. I can't say if being tired helped us or not. If we didn't win in our previous games then we wouldn't talk about this game as an opportunity. The players' reaction was excellent and we have a chance to continue our momentum".
Coach Spahija also addressed the issue of Alexi Shved: "We will try to keep our philosophy from the first game. I never trust and believed in a philosophy that letting only one player score will win the game, because some players are able to win with fast breaks and grabbing offensive rebounds and it will be enough to win the game. We need to play good defense against Shved and everyone. DeAndre Kane is a part of it he is one of the best defenders in Europe and we hope that he will do the job tomorrow".
"It was definitely necessary (having a fun day) especially with the upcoming schedule, a lot of games in a certain amount of days", said Michael Roll. "It was fun bonding so I thought it was great, it was greatly organized and we enjoyed it". Michael also addressed Khimki's injured players: "it's not confidence, it's about ourselves coming and doing what we need, we're not worried about who's here and who's not here we just have to play our game and if we can do that then hopefully it will be good. Every game now is huge and the key is how we play, the energy that we bring and the focus that we have out there. It all leads up to this, we've had a long season now until this point, and we try to improve so we can come and protect our home court and get this win. You don't stop a guy like Alexi Shved you just try to make it as hard as possible we know he is the motor for them, we just got to do it as difficult as possible and if we do hopefully it'll be ok".
"We know how important it is to win this game" said DeAndre Kane. "If we win this game we can go up one place, if we lose we can go down to nine or stay at eight, the last games of the season are the most important games but tomorrow is very important. We know what's at stake and we know what can happen if we win a game or lose a game, for us it's just to come out really focused and with a lot of energy. They are a good team and they have one of the best players In Europe, it's going to be a tough test for us but I think we're up for the challenge. Every game is important even in the Israeli league but we really just focus on our next opponent and that's Khimki".
