Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv faced Panathinaikos for the EuroLeague's 28th round. With the game being a must win the yellows fought hard for the entire game but eventually fell short to a basket scored by Mike James. The yellows are still fighting for the playoffs as they will have to win both remaining games and hope for a Basque loss against Barcelona.
Coach Spahija's starting five: Jackson, Kane, Roll, Bolden and Art. Singleton scored for Panathinaikos (0:3), Bolden and Roll tied the game (5:5). Three and a half minutes into the game and neither one of the teams managed to control the tempo as a timeout was called. James' three pointer gave Pao the 7:14 lead. Both teams exchanged baskets with Maccabi capitalizing to trim Pao's lead to 15:18 with just over two minutes remaining in the game., Cole continued the yellow run as he tied the game with a three pointer and Tyus gave the lead to the hosts (20:18) as the first quarter came to an end.
The greens tied the game at the beginning of the second quarter, but Cole found John-Di for a wing three to put the yellows ahead 23:20, the greens reacted but a great defensive play by John-Di and Cole turned into great offense with Thomas' dunk to give the yellows the 25:22 lead, Cole and John-Di increased Maccabi's lead from the free throw line to 29:22. Tyus connected with Kane as Maccabi increased their lead to 33:24 with just over four minutes remaining in the second quarter. Roll connected with Tyus for another alley-hoop, James reacted (35:27). Vougioukas' scored four points to keep Pao in the game (38:33), James took Maccabi's lead down to 39:35 but Jackson reacted with a jumper to keep Pao at bay in the first half (41:35).
James scored at the beginning of the third quarter but Kane reacted (43:37). Singleton scored from deep to trim Maccabi's lead to 45:42. James and Calathes completed a 5:0 run to give the greens back the 46:47 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. Kane reacted for the yellows with six points to reclaim the lead (52:47). Lojeski and James gave the lead to the visitors but Kane made sure the yellows will enter the final quarter with the 58:56 lead.
Cole completed the three point play at the beginning o the fourth quarter to increase Maccabi's lead to 61:56, James completed a three point play to keep Pao close to Maccabi, but Tyus connected again with a great pass by Roll for a thunderous dunk (65:61). Singleton and Vougioukas brought Pao closer to Maccabi (65:64). Kane's successful free throws increased Maccabi's lead to 67:64 but Pao completed a 4:0 run forcing the coach Spahija to call for a timeout (67:68). The greens increased their lead to 67:70, but Maccabi stayed resilient as they took back the lead (71:70) with 01:32 remaining in the game forcing coach Pascual to call for a timeout. With less than a minute remaining Pao took the 72:74 lead, but Kane stole the ball and found Roll who scored a three pointer to give the yellows the 75:74 lead with 25.6 seconds remaining in the game. James scored a layup to give Pao the 75:76 lead with 5.8 remaining, Thomas missed at the buzzer as Pao claims 75:76 win.
