It was the 23rd round of the EuroLeague and with their sights locked and loaded for the EuroLeague playoffs the squad in yellow and blue played like there is no tomorrow as they fought hard and left it all out on the court securing an impressive 65:64 home win for Maccabi who now have a record of 10:12 as they continue their EuroLeague quest for the holy grail.
Coach Sfairopoulos' starting five: Wilbekin, Kane, Caloiaro, O'Bryant and Black. The reds started the game firing on all cylinders taking the 4:10 lead forcing coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout. Scottie and Black hustled on the offensive boards to make it 8:12. Pargo stepped in the game and immediately made his presence felt as he tied the game, but Spanoulis had the final say in the first quarter giving the visitors the 14:16 edge.
Milutinov was the first to score in the second quarter but Scottie and Wilbekin brought Maccabi to within a striking distance (17:18). Printezis and Williams Goss increased made it 17:22 in a game where both teams struggled to score. Johnny and Wilbekin sparked the Maccabi offense as they tied the game (26:26). Strelnieks was the last to score in the first half giving Olympiacos the 26:29 lead.
O'Bryant and Kane gave Maccabi the 30:29 edge, the visitors reacted but Wilbekin nailed his first three of the night to make it a tie (33:33). Both teams traded blows with neither ones of the sides managed to capitalize (41:41). Roll and Tyus ended the third quarter on a high note giving Maccabi the 45:42 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Williams Goss kept the visitors within a striking distance but Roll answered from deep giving Maccabi the 50:46 lead. Milutinov completed the three point play but the squad of coach Sfairopoulos kept their composure as they didn't allow the visitors breathe enroute of a 54:49 lead. The battle of heavyweights continued with Black delivering one blow after another to keep Maccabi ahead (59:55) with just under three minutes remaining in the game. With Black increasing Maccabi's lead Spanoulis took over the red offense to bring the visitors within a striking distance (63:61). Spanoulis scored from deep to give Olympiacos the 63:64 lead with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Scottie took it to the basket to give Maccabi the 65:64 edge with 4.4 seconds remaining in the game, Olympiacos had a chance to claim the game but Maccabi stood their ground on defense securing the home win.
