The playoffs quest of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv sustained a major blow as the yellows lost 83:85 to Zalgiris at home. The crew in yellow and blue imposed their will enroute of 45:36 lead at halftime. In the second half Maccabi managed to take the double digit lead again but Zalgiris fought all the way back as they capitalized time and again completing the late comeback and eventually securing the 83:85 away win. The yellows now drop to a record of 12:15 in the EuroLeague standings.
Coach Sfairopoulos' starting five: Wilbekin, Kane, Caloiaro, O'Bryant and Black. Tarik was the first to score in the game, the visitors reacted to take the lead but it was Tarik who kept Maccabi close to the visitors (6:8). Pargo stepped in to the game and scored immediately sparked the yellow offense to a 13:4 run as the yellows took the 19:15 lead. Ulanovas scored for Zalgiris but Caloiaro and Roll answered right away to make it 23:17. Milaknis made both of his free throws to bring his team closer to Maccabi as the first quarter comes to an end (23:19).
Zalgiris started the second quarter with a 4:0 run forcing coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout (23:23). Scottie ended a long scoring drought with back to back threes to put Maccabi ahead 29:25. Scottie was doing it all scoring and dishing as he led the yellow offense to a double digit lead (37:27). Both teams traded blows until the end of the second quarter with Maccabi having the 45:36 lead at half time.
Scottie started the third quarter with a deep dagger with the yellow taking the double digit lead again (48:36). Milaknis' three sparked a 7:0 run forcing coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout with the scoreboard showing 52:46. Westermann scored six points to tie the game with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter (52:52). Walkup completed Zalgiris' comeback but it was short-lived as Zoosman and Caloiaro reacted with a 6:0 run for Maccabi (59:55). Davies was fouled and made both of his free throws to make it 59:57 at the end of the third quarter.
The yellow offense was firing on all cylinders with Zoosman and Caloiaro increasing Maccabi's lead (63:57). Davies capitalized twice to bring the Lithuanians to within a striking distance (67:65). The squad of coach Sfairopoulos came back from the timeout on fire with Black and John-Di completing a 7:0 run to make it 74:65 with 05:16 remaining in the game. The greens answered with a 7:0 run to keep their hopes alive (76:74). Scottie's made free throws were answered by Davies and Westermann as the visitors took the lead forcing coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout (79:80). Black scored but Milaknis reacted from deep to put Zalgiris ahead 81:83 from which the yellows couldn't recover as Zalgiris grabs the 83:85 road win.
