Just before their game against Baskonia Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv faced a tenacious Maccabi Ashdod on the road. The hosts exploded from downtown scoring nine three pointers in the first quarter enroute of 29:21 lead. Maccabi remained poised as they completed a great defensive quarter taking the lead at halftime and also took a 74:83 lead in the fourth quarter however the hosts managed to send the game to overtime. Neither one of the sides really managed to impose its will in the first extra period as the game went to a second extra period where Maccabi kept their composure securing the 100:104 win.
Coach Sfairopoulos' starting five: Black, Cohen, Zoosman, Wilbekin and Pargo. Ashdod took the early 6:0 lead scoring back to back threes. Zoosman and Wilbekin scored for Maccabi but the locals reacted with back to back threes increasing their lead to 14:5. Down by double digits Maccabi made some stops and capitalized on the offensive end as they trimmed the locals' lead to 16:24. Ashdod scored their ninth three pointer of the quarter but Roll reacted from deep to end the first quarter with the scoreboard showing 29:21.
Both teams traded blows at the beginning of the second of the second quarter with coach Sfairopoulos' squad being the side to capitalize trimming Ashdod's lead to Johnny and Roll kept pushing forward bringing Maccabi within a striking distance (34:33). John-Di and Cohen completed the comeback giving Maccabi its first lead of the night (40:42). The locals tied the game but Black had the final say in the first half with the squad in yellow and blue having the 42:43 edge.
Black was the first to score in the third increasing Maccabi's lead, the hosts tried to stay close but Zoosman and John-Di kept them at bay (47:54). Stoll and Tollefsen scored back to back threes bringing the locals to within a striking distance (53:54). John-Di and Roll completed a 5:0 run but the hosts fought all the way back to complete a local comeback taking the 61:60 lead. John-Di capitalized on the open look from distance to end the third quarter leading 61:63.
Weiss tied the game but visitors kept their composure and the 63:66 lead. Shoshi scored for Ashdod but Roll and Johnny answered with back to back threes to keep the hosts behind 67:72. Johnny and John-Di increased Maccabi's lead to 74:83 with just under two minutes remaining in the game. Shoshi and Tollefsen kept fighting completing a 5:0 run for the locals forcing coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout (79:83). Shoshi and Stoll capitalized on the offensive end to make it a tie and send the game to overtime (83:83).
Zoosman and Johnny gave Maccabi the 83:85 edge in overtime but Weiss reacted from deep giving Ashdod a one point lead with 02:26 remaining in the game (86:85). Tollefsen connected with Stoll to make it 90:87 forcing coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout. Maccabi kept fighting and it paid off big with Johnny and Zoosman keeping their composure on the free throw line to tie the game (90:90) sending the game to its second overtime.
Roll and Zoosman gave Maccabi the 90:94 lead, Weiss reacted but Zoosman drove inside to keep Maccabi ahead (92:96). Caloiaro made both of his free throws but Stoll kept the hosts alive with a three point play (96:98). The locals stayed close until the end but that's all it was as Michael Roll secured the 100:104 away win.
