Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv started their week on a high note with an impressive home win over Bnei Herzlia in the 18th round of the Israeli domestic league. With both teams struggling to score in the first five minutes of the game the squad of coach Sfairopoulos executed the game plan to perfection not allowing the visitors to even think of a comeback enroute of an 88:70 home win and a 14:4 record in the standings.
Coach Sfairopoulos' starting five: Wilbekin, Zoosman, Kane, Cohen and Black. Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter as the scoreboard showed 2:4 five minutes into the game. Cohen ended the long offensive drought scoring from deep to give Maccabi the edge (5:4). Tarik took control over the game scoring seven points to put the yellows ahead 12:4 with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Robinson scored for the visitors but the squad in yellow and kept their lead with the first quarter coming to an end (18:9).
Roll and John-Di started the second quarter scoring four points to increase Maccabi's lead to 22:9. Herzelia tried to fight back but Caloiaro and Tyus reacted to keep Maccabi ahead in double digits (30:18). Adrian completed a 6:0 run for the visitors as the second quarter reached its halfway mark (30:24). Roll and Scottie scored three threes to claim the 39:29 lead. Levin tried to spark another comeback attempt for the visitors but Scottie had the final say in the first half making both of his free throws to give Maccabi the 44:35 lead at halftime.
The Squad in yellow and blue started the third quarter firing on all cylinders as they completed an 11:0 run to make it 55:35. The well-oiled offensive machine could not be denied as they continued to control the tempo enroute of a 65:40 lead. The offensive display of the hosts was pure poetry in motion as they finished the third quarter in style with the 70:47 lead.
Herzelia went on damage control but Roll and Pargo kept them at bay as they sparked another run for the hosts making it 83:56. Dori Sahar scored his first points in yellow and blue with the scoreboard showing 88:65. The visitors managed to complete a 5:0 run in the final minute but it was Maccabi who won the game with a show of dominance to keep their home safe with an 88:70 win.
