Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv faced Maccabi Rishon Le Zion in the Israeli league championship game. The crew in yellow and blue started the game poised as they took the early lead but Rishon managed to stay close throughout the first half (42:40). The train in yellow and blue imposed their will on both ends of the court in the third quarter limiting Rishon to just 15 points. In the fourth quarter the yellows exploded offensively enroute of the 89:75 win and a second championship in a row.
Coach Sfairopoulos' starting five: Scottie, Zoosman, Kane, Jake and Tarik. Monroe was the first to score in the game but Maccabi reacted with a 6:0 run (6:2). The oranges got close to the crew in yellow and blue, but great game reading and a lot of hustle by Zoosman and Black led the Maccabi offense to a 13:6 lead. Scottie was fouled on a three point attempt and made all of his free throws but Monroe managed to beat the buzzer from deep making it 16:11. Monroe kept fighting for Rishon but Tyus was there to keep the yellows ahead 20:13 as the first quarter came to an end.
Simpson and Hamilton got Rishon into their rhythm as they completed an 8:32 run (23:21) but John-Di reacted for Maccabi with five points to keep Rishon at bay (28:21). Tarik made his presence felt on both ends of the court to ignite the thousands in the stands as the heavyweight bout began with neither one of the sides being able to capitalize (37:31). The yellows took the momentum and the 42:37 lead. Long's three brought the oranges to within a striking distance, Scottie scored but Simpson capitalized on the offensive board to make it 44:42 at halftime.
Monroe tied the game at the beginning of the third quarter, Kane reacted from deep but Simpson scored again for Rishon to keep his team close to Maccabi (47:46). Scottie and John-Di increased Maccabi's lead to 53:48. Johnny's hustle paid off big but was answered with a three pointer by Alex Hamilton who kept his team close to the yellows (57:51). Kane and Johnny made it 62:55 with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter. John-Di made his free throws but Monroe was the last to score in the quarter with his team trailing 64:57.
John-Di reacted to Blazer's free throws with a deep dagger to put Maccabi ahead 67:59; Monroe was sent to the line and made one of his free throws but Zoosman amazing dime to Johnny was worth a three-point play to put Maccabi ahead in double digits (70:60). Yovel Zoosman took control over the game as the crew in yellow and blue fired on all cylinders enroute of a 77:62 lead. Cohen and Long traded blows from deep but Maccabi kept their composure and with a lot of heart and hustle to keep their double digits lead (86:71) from which the oranges couldn't recover as Maccabi secured their back to back championships in style – with and 89:75 win.
