One of the top point guards in Europe is the latest newcomer in Yellow-and-Blue - Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv signed Lorenzo Brown to a two-year deal. The 31-years old American floor general, who stands at 6ft 5in,  lands in Tel Aviv off a stellar season with Kazan, where he was considered an MVP candidate before Russian teams were expelled from the competition.

“I'm Excited to join the Maccabi family", Lorenzo Brown told maccabi.co.il. "I’m looking forward to being a part of the legacy that’s been created and also playing in front of the wonderful fan base”.

"Lorenzo is a tough player, a leader and he has an excellent passing ability", coach Oded Kattash explained to the club's official website after the coordinator signed the contract. "He has very good decision making and I have no doubt he will feel comfortable with our method of play".

Lorenzo Brown was having his best EuroLeague season until Kazan’s participation was stopped due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Along with his 13.8 points per game, he ranked second in the league with 6.1 assists and fourth with 1.5 steals.

He is a tall guard who doesn’t shy away from contact. Brown is an agile player who can pose a threat from any range. He is also considered an excellent defender, capable of stealing the ball at a high rate. Lorenzo is a good performer under pressure, while being able to spot the open man and deliver high quality passes.

Lorenzo Brown was born in Roswell, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, on August 26, 1990. He made his mark as a teenager, collecting accolades at the high school level. Brown attended a military academy in Virginia, before embarking in 2010 on a 3-year college career with North Carolina State. He led the Wolfpack to two consecutive NCAA Tournament births, and was selected 52nd by Minnesota in the 2013 NBA Draft.

In the NBA, Lorenzo bounced around between the Timberwolves, 76ers, Suns and Raptors, and also had stints in the G-League. He amassed 103 games in the NBA regular season and 4 in the playoffs with Toronto, and was named the 2018 G-League MVP.

In 2016, Brown moved to China, starring for the Golden Bulls with 24 points, 7.5 boards, 5.5 dimes and 2.7 steals per game. He continued to excel in China until 2019, when he decided to take his talents to Europe.

First, Lorenzo Brown signed for Crvena Zvezda for his debut EuroLeague season, that was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Then, in 2020, he moved to Fenerbahce and contributed 9.5 points, 3.4 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals for the Turkish team. Last summer, it was Kazan who put their hands on the point guard.

Brown became the focal point in the fantastic team basketball the Russians played under Velimir Perasovic. He started 23 out of 24 EuroLeague games, and served as the floor general and main star of the team. In Kazan’s visit to Tel Aviv, Brown delivered 26 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds en route to 30 PIR.
