Before joining Maccabi Tel Aviv, Kevin Magee was a legend at the collegiate level in America. Playing at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), Magee was twice named an All-American. During his two seasons at UCI, Magee was both a prolific and efficient scorer, in addition to being one of the top rebounders in the country. However, despite getting drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 1982 NBA draft, Magee never played in the NBA.
After short stops in Italy and Spain, Magee joined the Yellow and Blue and quickly became a fan favorite. His hard-nose style of play won over the fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv. In each of his 6 seasons with the team, from the 1984 to 1990, Magee and Maccabi won 6 Israeli League Championships and 5 Israeli State Cup titles. Magee also was pivotal in reaching the European Cup finals three times.
Not only was Magee a star on the court, but he was also one of the most well known celebrities off the court, featuring in many commercials.
In 2003, Magee tragically died in a car accident at the young age of 44. Although nearly 20 years have passed since Magee suited up in Yellow and Blue, Maccabi fans will forever remember Kevin as an electric player who brought so much joy and success to Maccabi Tel Aviv and to the fans.
